So… What Exactly IS Jeuveau® And What Does It Do?
As much as we wish you were reading this because you and your friends already swear by Jeuveau injections for their frown line wrinkles, we know you’re more likely new to Jeuveau® and may have questions. Keep reading to find out everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the injectable neurotoxin designed specifically to temporarily smooth your 11s (aka frown lines between the brows).

First things first. What exactly is Jeuveau?
You know those lines between your brows that seem to have gotten deeper over the last few years (or were they there before and you only noticed them after endless hours on Zoom)? Those frown lines are called “elevens” (‘cuz they look like 11s between your brows).
Jeuveau is a brand name for an injectable frown line wrinkle treatment. Jeuveau is made from a type of botulinum toxin (in the same category as Botox Cosmetic®) and for the aesthetic purpose of reducing the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines in adults. It works by relaxing the muscles in the treated area. Fun fact: Jeuveau is the only wrinkle treatment of its kind that is used exclusively for the aesthetic purpose of smoothing frown lines.
It’s nuts that an injectable with a teensy needle can make a BIG difference in how rested and relaxed you look. But it can. Basically, you get a smoothing, relaxed effect with Jeuveau.
Now, if you’re new to aesthetic treatments like getting injected with neurotoxins like Jeuveau, we think it’s helpful to not just know what Jeuveau does, but also what it doesn’t do. Specifically, it’s important to note that neurotoxins do not achieve the same results as fillers, which are used to help replace lost volume, create a “lifting” effect and fill in lines to areas like lips, cheeks and under the eyes.
Before you glaze over in overwhelm, know this. When you book an appointment with a skilled aesthetics specialist, they’ll be able to recommend the exact treatments needed to achieve the results you want.
What is Jeuveau made from?
The active ingredient in Jeuveau is a purified protein isolated from bacteria. Utilizing proprietary Hi-Pure™ Technology, the manufacturing process for Jeuveau involves purifying the toxin produced by bacteria, which is then purified and formulated into a safe and injectable form. (Too sciency? We nerd out on the science so you don’t have to!)
Jeuveau was developed by California-based performance beauty company Evolus and is manufactured in South Korea — aka the “Skincare and Beauty Capital of the World” in a state-of-the-art facility.
How does Jeuveau work?
Jeuveau is a prescription medication used to improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles in the treated area, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles by blocking the signals that activate your muscles. When the muscles in the treated area are temporarily relaxed, the wrinkles and lines caused by muscle movements become less noticeable.
Jeuveau is injected into the targeted muscles with a very fine needle and the procedure is typically done in a doctor's office, med spa environment or other medical aesthetics location. The effects of the treatment usually start to become noticeable within a few days and they can last for several months while the muscle activity gradually returns to its normal state.
Basically, Jeuveau temporarily minimizes the look of frown lines, is done in a quick 10-minute treatment with minimal pain and results can last up to 4 months before you need retreatment.**
It's important to note that Jeuveau should only be administered by a licensed medical professional trained in the use of botulinum toxin injections. Additionally, Jeuveau should not be used by individuals who are allergic to any of the ingredients in the medication or who have a history of allergic reactions to botulinum toxin products.
Is Jeuveau permanent?
No, Jeuveau is not permanent. The effects typically last between three to four months. During this time, the muscle activity gradually returns to its normal state, when wrinkles and lines may start to reappear. At this point, you can choose to have additional injections to maintain desired results.
It's important to note that the longevity of the effects of Jeuveau can vary from person to person, depending on factors such as age, skin type, genetics and the severity of the treatment area. Additionally, the results of Jeuveau are not permanent, and over time, the skin will continue to age and develop new wrinkles, which may require further treatment.
And because Jeuveau kicks in differently for every patient, we recommend you give it time to see results. While many patients start seeing results in as little as two days, we’ve found best results are present at 1 month. Regardless of results, you’ll want to wait 3 months before being retreated.
The question you probably wanted to ask first: Can I see some Before & After photos?
We thought you’d never ask!

What kind of results does Jeuveau offer?
In two US studies, 68% and 70% of Jeuveau patients had a 2-grade or better physician and patient-rated improvement in frown lines after 1 month. (Meaning they saw significantly improved results.)
But that's not all. In a study conducted in Europe and Canada, 54% of patients had visible results as early as 2 days after treatment based on a 1 grade improvement by physician assessment.*
On average, Jeuveau patients receive three treatments per year, meaning that results often last up to four months.
*In clinical studies, about 50% of patients had visible improvement after 2 days (based on physician assessment of ≥1-grade improvement). Most patients (~69%) achieved complete results after one month (based on physician and patient assessments of ≥2-grade improvement)

***Data on file, 2024 Pulse Survey of 424 people surveyed about their treatment experience with Jeuveau.
What’s it like before & after treatment?
Before and after treatment with Jeuveau, you may experience some differences in the way your skin looks and feels.
Before treatment, you may notice that the frown lines between your eyebrows are more pronounced and noticeable when you make certain facial expressions, such as frowning or squinting. These lines can make you appear tired, angry or older than you actually are. You may also feel self-conscious about your appearance (Zoom face is real).
Once you choose a licensed, qualified injector, they may be given a list of activities and foods to avoid before your appointment. Following your injector’s instructions can help minimize any pain, bruising, swelling or other minor concerns.
On the day of your appointment, you’ll likely be in and out of the office quickly! Here’s what to expect:
- Your injector will gently clean the areas to be treated.
- They may apply ice or a mild numbing cream to your face to minimize any injection discomfort
- Using a fine needle, they’ll inject directly into the treatment
- Your injector may apply or suggest you apply ice and/or a gel pack to treated areas to prevent swelling
After treatment, you should notice a gradual reduction in the appearance of your frown lines. Temporary localized pain or tenderness, swelling and/or bleeding or bruising can be normal afterwards. It's important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions for aftercare, which may include avoiding certain activities such as strenuous exercise or excessive sun exposure in the days following your treatment to ensure the best possible results. (Again, your injector should prepare you for post-treatment care. If you have questions, definitely communicate with them.)
What are the side effects?
The most frequently reported side effects (≥ 1% and >placebo) following injection of Jeuveau were headache (12%), eyelid drooping (2%), upper respiratory tract infection (3%) and increased white blood cell count (1%).
It’s also important to note that the effects of all botulinum toxin products, including Jeuveau, may spread from the area of injection to produce symptoms consistent with botulinum toxin effects. These symptoms have been reported hours to weeks after injection. Swallowing and breathing difficulties can be life threatening and there have been reports of death. No serious drug-related side effects were reported in the Jeuveau clinical studies. See additional important safety information below.
Keep in mind that all neurotoxins carry a level of risk, which is why you should always talk to a doctor you trust before deciding to make an appointment.
How much does Jeuveau cost? Is Jeuveau expensive?
Every injector prices their neurotoxin treatment based on a variety of factors. It’s important to ask up front about costs so you can make an educated decision that fits within your budget.
